6The Change Track in the Analysis Phase
The change track brings together the tasks that are about making change happen. The purpose is to ensure that all employees who will be affected by the change get through the process in a good and efficient way, enabling us to create the new behaviour required to unlock the full potential of the benefits.
In line with the benefit track, the change track is divided into an analysis phase and execution phase (Figure 6.1). In the analysis phase, called the change analysis, we learn more about the extent of the change and how to achieve it successfully. In the execution phase, we will ensure that this happens.
The change analysis starts right after the benefits realisation workshop.
For the change track, the trick is to regard the change just as you would the technical aspect of the project. Similar to technical deliverables, it is essential to specify the change activities in order to estimate and plan them. Therefore, we must design and understand the many facets of the change before executing the project, just as we do in the technical track. In addition, we must create the best possible basis for the subsequent change efforts by engaging and creating ownership among the managers and employees from the business who will be involved in the analysis phase.
