In this chapter, we’re going to look at how to use Ruby with the Internet and with the various services available on the Internet, from the Web to email and file transfers.

The Internet has recently become an inescapable part of software development, and Ruby has a significant number of libraries available to deal with the plethora of Internet services available. In this chapter, we’ll focus on a few of the more popular services: the Web, email (POP3 and SMTP), and FTP, along with how to process the data we retrieve.
