Managing Subordinates’ Performance
The second set of lessons about interpersonal judgment the new managers had to learn was how to manage individual subordinates’ performance. In management textbooks, it is the most extensively covered topic, and includes evaluating performance, diagnosing performance problems, setting expectations, delegating, coaching and developing, providing feedback on performance, and linking performance to rewards and punishments.
