Settings are easy to ignore as a video editor or as a book author. Either way, that would be a major mistake. Settings help editors keep from making mistakes and avoid unnecessary and repetitive work. The time you spend customizing settings is rewarded by making the Media Composer work with you instead of seemingly against you. Settings would be fairly easy to ignore in a book aimed at more advanced users, but even the most experienced editor has gaps in his or her knowledge, and if that gap includes missing out on exploiting a beneficial setting, it could be a costly gap.
