So far, we have covered the musical system and some basic music theory that explains how phrases/sections of a pop song function. The previous chapter was the groundwork that allows me to spend this chapter explaining how a producer might think about a track as a whole, viewing it as the sum of its parts. We will now begin to think of a track in terms of its overall journey as it progresses, rather than viewing it under the microscope of a single progression.

So what better way to start than by discussing the different sections found in a pop song and how they function in relation to each other.
