Data Collection Details

Introduction

The 2013 ASTD Competency Study is a rigorous evaluation of the 2004 Competency Study research, with a particular focus on the Areas of Expertise (AOEs). Several sources of data were used to inform decisions about how to revise the 2004 Model, including:

  • existing data from ASTD, such as Certified Performance and Learning Professional (CPLP) exam item statistics, CPLP exam feedback, perspectives of key stakeholders, and ASTD research reports
  • interviews and focus groups with a cross section of subject matter experts (SMEs)
  • surveys of the profession (both targeted and large-scale surveys of training and development professionals who are ASTD members or are otherwise associated with ASTD). ...
