5.6. The Growth Curve Models

Suppose a growth process is observed on a set of experimental subjects over a period of time. We want to build an appropriate growth function for this process. We may also want to compare the growth functions of groups of several sets of individuals or subjects. A generalization of MANOVA models can be used to fit certain polynomial growth curves to the growth process and hence, using the standard theory of multivariate analysis, we can compare the growths of several groups. We consider this model next. For comprehensive treatment of the growth curve models, see Kshirsagar and Smith (1995).
