Organisational culture and burnout

By far the most important factor that determines whether an individual burns out is the culture of the organisation in which they work. It is the culture that pushes people either towards stress, mental ill-health and burnout, or conversely to psychological safety and high performance. It can feel like the culture exists independently of its individual members. Leaders set the culture, which means an organisation reflects its leaders’ values, priorities and emotional intelligence.
