Substrate Acquisition and Considerations

In the case of art and alternative processes, substrate is the term that applies to any material that is used as a printing surface or foundation for receiving art. It is the media you use to print to, paint to, or use as a base. Paper, canvas, wood, metal, stone, tile, and many others are all examples of substrates.

If you can learn to be resourceful, you can save a lot of money on your materials and also stand out a little bit due to aesthetic differences. Each material has its own aesthetic and will alter or transform your art in different ways. First gather, then experiment, and finish with an intentional choice.
