SECTION 9.1: SYSTEMS OF EQUATIONS IN TWO VARIABLES | |
A system of two linear equations in two variables is composed of two linear equations that are considered simultaneously. The solutions of the system of equations are all ordered pairs that make both equations true. A system of equations is consistent if it has at least one solution. A system of equations that has no solution is inconsistent. The equations are dependent if one equation can be obtained by multiplying on both sides of the other equation by a constant. Otherwise, the equations are independent. Systems of two equations in two variables can be solved graphically. |
