Introduction
The world around you, as seen through your eyes, comes courtesy of light. The light may arrive from the sun, a flame, or an electric bulb. Hence, when building our own worlds within a 3D program, you must generate light with special tools. While the tools are fairly easy to master, it’s the aesthetic component of lighting that can be mysterious. In this context, an aesthetic is a set of principles that guide the lighting choices. Hence, when we discuss “aesthetic 3D lighting,” we are examining lighting principles developed in the fine arts and in the animation industry.
