New Trends in Tone Mapping

The previous chapter presented an overview of tone mapping. The operators presented are typically tailored for a specific goal when reducing the dynamic range of an HDR image such as preserving local/global contrast, matching the perception of the HVS, etc. A more recent trend is to develop generic TMOs that are flexible and can simulate the existing ones [247], or to mix different TMOs [38,429], or TMOs that adapt the output to be suitable for any display device [242].
