Comparison of Modulation Formats for Digital Optical Communications

In this chapter, the transmission performances of modulation formats, including discrete phase, continuous phase, amplitude shift keying, partial response duobinary, and multicarrier orthogonal modulation are compared. First, a summary of amplitude shift keying (ASK), differential phase shift keying (DPSK), and differential quadrature phase shift keying (DQPSK) of various FWHM pulse widths is presented.
