In 1988, in San Diego California, a competition was conducted to build a house from the ground up in four hours or less. The competing groups could not use pre-fabricated parts, they had to put in the foundations, and they had to abide by all of the strict Californian building codes, including being earthquake resistant! Oh, and they also had to paint it, furnish it, install the kitchen, and create a garden with shrubs and a lawn. They took just two hours 45 minutes.
