5. Getting Others to Own Their “Fraction of the Action”

In Chapter 2, we discussed the importance of understanding and clarifying what people were hired to do. Indeed, people work best when they have a clear and detailed understanding of the task they are to perform. In this chapter, we discuss the Work/Life Approach to getting others to take ownership for their jobs—owning their “fraction of the action.”

In addition to people understanding what they were hired to do, the successful organization starts by hiring the right people with the right competencies to perform the job. In effect, the successful organization seeks to hire sapient workers who can help the organization realize the desired end results.
