Be Yourself, or Someone Else: Playacting Is Part of Business

In everyday life, we automatically assume different roles. We bluster when the occasion calls for bragging rights. We cower when we are menaced and we intimidate when we throw temper tantrums or squeal to get our way. We anger when we become indignant and skulk when we are caught.

Playacting or roleplaying is almost a mechanical act in response to a situation that calls for a reaction to a stimulus. It is a pretense, a deception, a ruse, an act. And we do it every day.
