19.3 Open Systems Environment (OSE)
Whenever the Web server receives an HTTP request, requesting a JSP or
servlet, the request is forwarded to the WebSphere plug-in. The WebSphere
plug-in forwards HTTP requests to a given application server (JVM) using a
proprietary protocol called OSE. OSE stands for Open System Environment.
OSE is integrated with the load balancing mechanism of WebSphere. Whenever
there are more than one clone defined for some application server, OSE
transport automatically distributes the load across clones. When the WebSphere
plug-in and the application server are on separate machine, we refer to remote
OSE.
