Chapter 12

Assembling Kits and Reviewing Machine Setup

IN THIS CHAPTER

Bullet Sourcing a kit 3D printer

Bullet Obtaining printed parts or spares for machine assembly

Bullet Looking at frame structure and configuration options

Bullet Assembling the moving axis

Bullet Connecting sensors, displays, and cables

This chapter describes many of the component parts of a 3D printer. We look at 3D-printer kits using both individual components and as semi-built modular assemblies for you to assemble. I'll describe how the machine motion and sensing operations work and prepare you for wiring and incorporating the electronics I discuss in Chapter 13.

Although this chapter covers a lot of ground, you shouldn’t think of it as a full-build guide for a specific printer. Instead, it’s meant to further assist you in deciding whether a complete kit, modular kit, or a fully assembled 3D printer is the most suitable path to take when sourcing a machine for your needs.
