There are three ways to acquire a 3D model without creating it on your own: download, capture, and 3D scan. For individuals unfamiliar with 3D modeling, downloading a model may be the easiest way to start printing. It allows the user to bypass the 3D modeling process and simply shop for an item. There are many useful websites (called repositories) brimful of 3D models available for download – and many are free!
Say, for example, you need a prop skull for your upcoming production of Hamlet. Go online and find a skull to print. Not only can it be an enjoyable armchair shopping experience, but you can forget about all those dusty thrift-store shelves or hours of sculpting with clay or foam.
