Preface

In the summer of 2022, Ady Kalra and Mary-Beth Hosking began working together: Ady as the head of engineering and Mary-Beth as the CIO for a global gaming organization. During the first six months of working together, it became apparent that both leaders had a similar goal: to take the organization from a startup to an enterprise model without overburdening it with superfluous process and additional headcount.

At the time, the business was reeling from the pressures of the ‘great resignation’, and the war on talent had impacted the velocity of the development teams. Costs to secure high-end technical talent were becoming prohibitive, and the regulatory requirements in the industry were creating unforeseen bottlenecks.
