Really Simple Syndication (RSS) allows people to subscribe to timely updates from their favourite websites. More than this, it was a stepping stone to the real-time Web of today.

Aged just 14, Aaron Swartz was a member of the working group that created the RSS 1.0 specification. He went on to help define RDF (Resource Description Framework) at the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
