Start Here! Fundamentals of Microsoft® .NET Programming--New from Microsoft Press

October 14, 2011

Sebastopol, CA—Prepare yourself to learn Microsoft® .NET programming by grasping the basic concepts that drive all .NET-based languages. If you have absolutely no previous experience, no problem—simply start here. Start Here! Fundamentals of Microsoft® .NET Programming (Microsoft Press, $19.99 USD) provides the foundation for all other .NET programming books in the Start Here! series. You'll explore programming concepts and techniques with clear explanations, easy-to-follow examples, and exercises.

"Beginning programming books have a lot of overlap," says author Rod Stephens. "They all cover a lot of the same topics. Many of these are important but not central to the book's theme so they are often glossed over. This book focuses on those common topics to provide important background for beginning programmers. By focusing only on these topics, this book can cover them in greater depth than other books can."

With Start Here! Fundamentals of Microsoft® .NET Programming, you will:

  • Delve into basic object-oriented concepts such as classes and inheritance
  • Learn how programs store data in memory, in files, and in databases
  • Understand how control statements help programs work
  • Become familiar with the widgets for building graphical user interfaces
  • Discover how programs take advantage of multicore processors
  • Use globalization to provide programs for users throughout the world
  • Get an extensive glossary of key programming terms

This title is available at no charge as a complementary resource for purchasers of Start Here! Learn Microsoft® Visual C#® 2010 Programming and Start Here! Learn Microsoft® Visual Basic® 2010 Programming. It acts as a handy supplement, but not a required addition, to the other two titles for entry-level programmers who have no grounding in .NET.
