Take Control of iWeb '09--New from TidBITS: Step-by-step directions for using iWeb to create and publish a Web site

May 26, 2009

Ithaca, NY—iWeb '09, part of Apple's iLife '09 application suite, aims to help users build an attractive Web site quickly and easily. However, not all of iWeb's features are fully explained in Apple's documentation, making it difficult for users to get the most out of iWeb.

To fill the documentation gap and help readers use iWeb's tools creatively, TidBITS Publishing Inc. has just released Take Control of iWeb '09 ($10.00 USD), a 152-page ebook that provides all the steps for building an iWeb site and uploading it to MobileMe or to another Web host.

Readers can look over author Steve Sande's shoulder as he enhances iWeb's templates with a designer's eye, using tools like masks, reflections, and Instant Alpha. Readers will also learn the ins and outs of uploading, with special coverage of using a custom domain name and uploading to third-party hosts.

Special projects covered include:

  • Making an image map
  • Using an iSight camera to record into iWeb
  • Adding a podcast episode from GarageBand
  • Submitting your podcast to iTunes
  • Exporting a video file from iMovie to include in iWeb
  • Integrating with iPhoto albums and MobileMe galleries
  • Embedding a YouTube video
  • Including an RSS or Twitter feed
  • Providing directions to readers via an embedded Google map
  • Getting information from readers via an embedded Google form
  • Setting up RSS feed for an iWeb blog
  • Gaining income from an iWeb site by adding Google AdSense ads
  • Creating a simple online store

Steve Sande is editor of Movable Beast and CacheCaster, producing podcasts on a regular basis for both sites. He is President of Raven Solutions, LLC and operates the Podbus.com podcast hosting service. Steve also teaches the arcane art of writing software requirements at The Center for Requirements Excellence.
