When you are looking for a nice book which teaches you the big picture of client-server web apps, this is the one you should definitely read! There are some nice examples which are perfect for the 'learning by doing' way of learning to program. When you are, however looking for some very deep technical knowledge, you should be looking for another book. http://www.amazon.com/review/R14JZV2NNQWH5Y Full Review >

The Secret to Peak Productivity

The Secret to Peak Productivity

A Simple Guide to Reaching Your Personal Best

As a regular reader of computer books this is one the exceptions to the rule: a book about productivity. The title of this book is really what this book is about (with most of the titles it works that way ; although with fiction books the titles that is more not the case actually). I enjoyed the book from start to finish. First the author introduces you to the so called Peak Productivity Pyramid (like the Maslow Pyramid) , and you can take a test to see at which levels you might have work to do to be more productive. I found out that for me at all levels work needed to be done, so I was really interested in reading the rest of the book as I was anxious to learn what I needed to change to be more productive. The title alone was enough to get my attention. What a great idea to write a book the way Pat Shaughnessy did. I loved it. I am not a real expert on Ruby (yet) but I really enjoyed the different approach to learning the internals behind Ruby. Full Review >

This book is huge, it will take you lots of time to read, but it well worth it. I choose this book to review although it was this big, because Python knowledge is in huge demand lately and also because I am totally new with the language. Full Review >

As a hobby I like to look behind the code of websites and code myself. In the past I worked quite a lot with PHP, but not that much with JavaScript (ECMAScript). The book I will now write about is an excellent book for my personal situation: being already familiar with PHP but not that used to JavaScript at the time I read it, I really enjoyed it.
