Many of the functional programming books that I have read (or in all honesty started to read but not finished) tend to bog down in the syntax of the language and explain how concepts work but not why you should care. Functional Thinking is refreshing in that it guides imperative-thinking programmers to understand how the patterns that they currently employ to solve problems currently could be solved using functional patterns and most crucially, why you should care.
