Subject: Youngest "Learning Python" Fan
From: Tim Pietzcker
Hi,
Our 17-month-old son just loves the O'Reilly Learning Python book. I suppose he especially likes the cute "mouse" on the cover. (I haven't
had the guts to tell him that it's actually a rat).
Just thought you might like to know. :-)

Best greetings and keep those great books coming.
Tim
[ Editor's Note: We shared these photos with David Ascher, one of the authors of Learning Python, and this was his response. ]
Hi Tim,
Thanks for the pictures. Feel free to tell him it's a rat; my kids have two pet rats and they find them just fine to play with. They're quite cute, too. Here's a picture of one of ours.

Thanks,
David

I snapped a similar picture three years ago, when my daughter was about the same age. It wasn't staged--I was reading the book myself, and went for a drink of water. When I came back, she was "reading".
But it just goes to show you--you have to be careful what you expose your kids to. I'm concerned that she may be scarred for life by reading Perl 5 code. I'd have felt better if it would have been something more healthy, but one takes life as it comes.
