Subject: Managing and Using Apache (international)
Tim,
Managing and Using Apache (international) This book is listed on your site, but no information is available other than as a reference from another Apache book page. Any info on this book?
Dave Feryus
Dave,
At one point this book was under development in our German office, but it was cancelled when we published Apache: The Definitive Guide. We generally don't like to have more than one book on the same topic. This has gotten a bit harder to manage now that we have five international offices, since you don't want to hold up development of a local language book if it can be done before the English book.
In general, we let our offices compete to be the first to get a book done, but once it's done, we'd rather translate than have a competing book.
We're very excited to release our first book in the US Protecting Networks with SATAN that was originally developed in another language. The book first appeared in Germany last year, and is now out in English.
Our long-term vision is that books developed in any of our companies will eventually be made available by the others in their own native languages. Because the US company has been established the longest, most of the flow is from English to other languages, but we're starting to get books coming the other way.
