Leading Code Reference Material Now Available On-Demand in New Macromedia
Dreamweaver 4 and UltraDev Fireworks 4 Studio
DREAMWEAVER CONFERENCE, Monterey, CA-- Macromedia (NASDAQ: MACR) and O'Reilly &
Associates today announced an exclusive, three-year agreement that embeds
complete HTML, CSS, and JavaScript references from
Dynamic HTML: The
Definitive Reference by Danny Goodman, directly into the new Macromedia
Dreamweaver 4 Fireworks 4 Studio and the new UltraDev 4 Fireworks 4 Studio
(also announced today). This first-ever integration of a
leading DHTML reference guide with the market-leading visual web development
platform enables developers of all levels access to on-screen, on-demand help
while they work, making hand-coding and visual development more comfortable and
intuitive.
This embedded reference material helps emerging developers learn code by
providing easily accessible information on any piece of code that the developer
highlights in "code view" of the products. Developers can, for example,
highlight a tag in their own code, click a button, and the reference material
for that tag--including properties and browser compatibility--opens up in the
O'Reilly window.
Experienced developers also benefit from being able to easily access code
examples or track down browser compatability issues, enabling them to increase
productivity and time to market by shortening design and development cycles.
"Integrating the gold standard in reference materials into the Dreamweaver
Platform was a natural fit," said Kevin Lynch, president of Macromedia
products. "The pace of web development requires our customers to learn as they
go. By integrating O'Reilly content directly within our products, we aim to
help emerging and experienced developers increase their productivity and
enhance their skills."
"We're continually exploring new ways of providing vital information to those
who need it," says Tim O'Reilly, founder and CEO of O'Reilly & Associates.
"When Macromedia approached us with this idea, we were intrigued. It makes
sense to make information about web development immediately available to
Dreamweaver users. Macromedia has done a great job with the integration of
Danny Goodman's material and the Dreamweaver products, and their million-plus
Dreamweaver users will benefit."
Dreamweaver 4 and Dreamweaver UltraDev4 users will also have access to the
advanced searching capabilities of O'Reilly's Safari, a web-based online
book service, from within the new Macromedia products. O'Reilly's reference
material will be translated in the French, German, and Japanese versions of the
new products.
