O'Reilly's Java in a Nutshell Leading the Pack in Java Developer's Journal 2000 Reader's Choice Awards
Sebastopol, CA--Less than a month into voting, David Flanagan's Java in a Nutshell already has a considerable lead over other titles in the "Best Book" category of Java Developer's Journal 2000 Reader's Choice Awards. Dubbed "the Oscars of the Software Industry," the awards are given to the top Java products of the year, and this year, the selection has been expanded to encompass 18 categories, including Best Book.

Java in a Nutshell, an all-time bestseller and now in its third edition, heads the competition with 916 votes (status at 6pm, Wednesday, February 16), while runner up Enterprise JavaBeans by Richard Monson-Haefel is second with 354 votes, and third place is held by Java Servlet Programming by Jason Hunter with 296 votes (both published by O'Reilly). Other O'Reilly Java titles presently occupy 10th, 12th through 15th, and 18th place.

Java Developer's Journal (JDJ) readers can cast their votes through May 31, 2000 at the publication's website, where they can track the competition through continuously updated live stats. The winners will be announced at JavaOne on June 24, 2000 and the awards will be presented at JavaCon2000 on September 25, 2000.

O'Reilly's Java authors will be featured at the "Java Happy Hour" during the "O'Reilly Conference on Java - Enterprise Java," Tuesday night, March 28th, 5.30pm - 7.30pm, Westin Hotel, Santa Clara, CA. Jason Hunter is also the instructor for the "Learning Servlets" tutorial on March 27th.
