O'Reilly to Distribute SitePoint Web Development Books

Sebastopol, CA--O'Reilly Media announced today that it is the exclusive distributor of SitePoint Pty. Ltd.'s books in North America. O'Reilly is launching SitePoint books into the retail channel, providing direct sales, warehousing and shipping, plus direct marketing and PR support.

Founded by Matt Mickiewicz and Mark Harbottle, SitePoint has enjoyed great success as one of the first online resources for web developers and designers. Today, 1.8 million visitors a month peruse their forums, articles, and blogs. The company launched their book publishing program in September 2001, has six popular titles in print, and is planning to double the number of in-print titles in the coming year. "SitePoint really understands the power of community," said Laura Baldwin, O'Reilly's COO. "They've built a great brand and, through their web site, a proven venue for communicating with their customer community. By getting their books on the shelves in retail stores, we're confident we can help them make the most of their strong brand and quality products."

Commenting on the deal today, SitePoint Managing Director and Co-founder Mark Harbottle said, "This will not only benefit our customers by providing them with convenience and freedom of choice, it will also significantly increase brand awareness of SitePoint by supplementing our online sales with traditional bricks-and-mortar distribution."

SitePoint books will be available in North American bookstores as early as October 2004.
