UNCONFIRMED  errors and comments from readers: 

[62]  hack #26: replace unwanted characters;
hack number 26 does not work with this nuisance that often gets into excel when
importing data, namely code 160.  Word can identify and get rid of it but excel can't
recognise it.  How come?
