3rd paragraph, and Figure2-1 caption

Twice in the 3rd ΒΆ, 1st sentence, it says "TCP/IP" instead of "UDP/IP". Same typo in the Figure 2-1 caption. And, since the paragraph is actually about UDP, not TCP, the second sentence should probably be omitted: "Today, any device that wishes to communicate on the Internet ... must use this protocol suite."

Second bullet, second sentence.

The back slash character is: \
The forward slash (AKA slash) character is: /

Passage as currently printed:
The one difference is that on Windows, paths use forward slashes.

Passage as proposed:
The one difference is that on Windows, paths use back slashes.

On another note, I do appreciate that almost all of the other errata, as noted on this website, are already included in the book that I own. Thank you for yet another well written and very informative O'Reilly book.

Endnotes

Endnotes in the first half of the book are clickable and bring up a dialogue showing the endnote directly on the page as you read and use various endnote characters.

Endnotes in the second half of the book are simply asterisks which do not do anything beyond making note of the endnote.

Second code sample

The command for the trap in version 1 shows:

$ snmptrap -v2c nms public '' .1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.3 \
ifIndex i 2 ifAdminStatus i 1 ifOperStatus i 1

In the current windows version (could not test for *nix), it does not work and should read:

snmptrap -v2c -c public nms '' .1.3.6.1.6.3.1.1.5.3 \
ifIndex i 2 ifAdminStatus i 1 ifOperStatus i 1

The changes are:
- community precedes the hostname
- community must be preceded by '-c' (-c public)

last sentence of first (partial) paragraph

(Either this is a mistake or an explanation of where the "4" came from is in order.)

The sentence refers to interface 4, but should refer to interface 2 (right?):

"In this case, we're polling interface 4 in the ifTable."
should be:
"In this case, we're polling interface 2 in the ifTable."

2nd sentence in 3rd paragraph

The first of the two OIDs in the sentence is incorrect.

The OID is incorrectly shown as: 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.5.6.0

It should be: 1.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.5.0
