Step 13

Regarding this line: "Merge the databases by exporting the data from the RDB and importing it into the recovered database".

I think it's supposed to be "dial tone database", not "RDB".

Note from the Author or Editor:
I think the reager has misunderstood the procedure. I have sent him a message. However, Step 13 could be clearer. Please amend it to read:

Merge the databases by exporting the data from the RDB and importing it into the dial-tone database, which now becomes the recovered database.

1st paragraph and last item on the Lesson Summary section.

This line on the 1st paragraph: "You may need to use a NLB solution [...]"
And the last line of the Lesson Summary: "[...] using a NLB solution [...]"

This one makes me feel like a real grammar Nazi, but you consistently write "an NLB" throughout this lesson. These lines here spell "a NLB", which is inconsistent with the rest.

Just saying.

Note from the Author or Editor:
Please change "a NBL" to "an NBL" where the reader indicates.

The Quick Check box on the bottom of the page.

The Quick Check Answer is incomplete.

It states that only you can only "enable or disable connectivity logging" using either the EMS or the EMC. This, however, is not complete because "configuring the location of the connectivity log files" can also be done using either of those.

This can be verified because the first half of page 499 explains us how to do this, first by using the EMC, and then the EMS.

6th paragraph, second sentence

Sentence reads: "Journal rules can be used to ensure that all message that are sent to a specified email address are also stored is a journaling mailbox for compliance purposes."
The word "is" should be "in" as a verb does not make sense placed there following another verb, "stored". The descriptor "in" tells where the storing is taking place.

Note from the Author or Editor:
4th line in the second last paragraph - "stored is a journalling mailbox" should be "stored in a journalling mailbox".

2nd paragraph

In the section "Configuring Mailboxes to Use Sharing Policies" there is a sample EMS cmdlet to get mailbox user data and pipe it to a set command for federated sharing; however, the set-mailbox cmdlet part is missing.

The text says, "For example, the following command configures all mailboxes with the Marketing Department to use the Adatum Marketing federated sharing policy:

Get-Mailbox -Filter {Department -eq "Marketing"}"

I could be wrong, but you can't set a Federated Sharing Policy with a get-mailbox command. Like the text says, you still need to pipe it into a set-mailbox command.

The number of questions are wrong: There should not be a question number "2" at the top of the page, as it is part of question number 2 on the previous page. So the total number of questions for chapter 13, lesson 1, should only be 5 (as the number of questions for the lesson is only 5 in the answer pages).

Note from the Author or Editor:
The reader means there should not be a number "3" at the top of the page as this is a continuation of question 2. Numbers 4, 5, and 6 should be 3, 4, and 5.

Last script at bottom of page

There are a lot of mistakes in this script - as it stands it could potentially result in major problems

1. The curly braces around Get-RetentionPolicy "Old-Retention-Policy" will cause it to be interpreted as a ScriptBlock; distinguishedName will therefore be $null as will the variable $oldpolicy (the braces should be parentheses)

2. The subsequent get-mailbox will still run -but the filter will pick up every mailbox without a retention policy assigned (the value of $oldpolicy will be $null). If you select "Yes to All" you will assign the policy to every mailbox that has no retention policy (which might be hard to revert)

- Setting the $oldpolicy variable should be on a separate line and not piped to get-mailbox
- RetentionPolicy is not a filterable property for get-mailbox; the RetentionPolicy mailbox attribute is an object
- The filter should be replaced by a where clause
- There is no need to use the distinguishedName

The whole script could be replaced with

get-mailbox -resultsize unlimited | where {$_.RetentionPolicy -eq "OLDPOLICYNAME"} | set-mailbox -retentionpolicy "NEWPOLICYNAME"

Note from the Author or Editor:
I see no curly braces in the command in my copy of the book. If there are any they should be ( and )

The reader is correct about setting the $oldpolicy variable. This should be on a separate line.

However, I don't agree with any of the other statements.

Replace the command (just above the final More Info box) with:

$OldPolicy={Get-RetentionPolicy "Old-Retention-Policy"}.distinguishedName
Get-Mailbox -Filter {RetentionPolicy -eq $OldPolicy} -Resultsize Unlimited | Set-Mailbox -RetentionPolicy "New-Retention-Policy"

Note from the Author or Editor:
This is very worrying. I tested the results of the procedure on my virtual network that included an OWA client and it seemed to work. Also TechNet advises locating the necessary keys (or creating them if they do not exist) and setting DWord values as per the procedure.

However this reader seems to have done some investigation. I don't get the same results but maybe I'm doing something wrong.

The safest thing to do would be to delete Exercise 1 on pages 679 through 682. It is extremely unlikely that the exam will test registry configuration in this detail. The alternative is to leave the pages as they are, but someone else might make the same comment.

If the procedure is deleted it would change subsequent pagination and indexing. Also Exercise 2 on pahe 682 woud become Exercise 1, five figures would be deleted so the subsequent figure numbers would need to change, and the Practice title .on page 679 would become "Disabling and Enabling MIME"

Is removing the procedure acceptable?
