Errata

I click on 'Installing Practice' files and nothing happens.I have tried it several times but can't get it to work.

The PrintingConsolidatedMessenger.png file is missing from the Companion Content. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

Incorrect reference to Compatibility Pack on the Companion CD
On page 4, the last sentence of the second paragraph reads:



"If you want to open Excel 2007 files in Excel 2000, Excel 2002, or Excel 2003, you can install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Office Word 2007, Excel 2007, and Office PowerPoint 2007 file formats from this book’s companion CD."



It should read:



"If you want to open Excel 2007 files in Excel 2000, Excel 2002, or Excel 2003, you can install the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Office Word 2007, Excel 2007, and Office PowerPoint 2007 file formats from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads."

Incorrect path to sample files
On page 23, the USE section in the blue box reads:



"the Route Volume workbook from the My DocumentsMicrosoft PressExcel SBSSetting UpCreating folder."



It should read:



"the Route Volume workbook from the My DocumentsMicrosoft PressExcel SBSCreating folder."

Incorrect path to sample files
On page 29, the USE section of the blue box reads:



"the Route Volume workbook and the Exception Summary workbook from the My DocumentsMicrosoft PressExcel SBSSetting UpCreating folder."



It should read:



"the Route Volume workbook and the Exception Summary workbook from the My DocumentsMicrosoft PressExcel SBSCreating folder."

Additional step needed between steps 3 and 4
The Service Levels workbook contains an additional mispelling that is not addressed in the instructions on page 50.



Change:

"3. Click Add to Dictionary.

Excel 2007 adds the word to the dictionary and displays the next questioned word: TwoDay."



To:

"3. Click Add to Dictionary.

Excel 2007 adds the word to the dictionary and displays the next questioned word: withn."



Additionally, a step should be inserted between steps 3 and 4:



"Click Change.

Excel 2007 corrects the word and displays the next questioned word: ThreeDay."

Note from the Author or Editor:
The error applies to page 51 of the print version. However, the additional misspelling has already been added.

Incorrect chapter referenced
On page 72, the "See Also" section reads:



"For more information about the VLOOKUP function, see “Looking Up Information in a Data List” in Chapter 15."



It should read:



"For more information about the VLOOKUP function, see “Looking Up Information in a Data List” in Chapter 7."

K4 should be J4
The second sentence in step 19 is incorrect.



Change:

"The red circle around the value in cell K4 disappears."



To:

"The red circle around the value in cell J4 disappears."

Incorrect symbol used
On pages 194 & 195, Steps 18, 22 and 26 indicate an incorrect symbol.



Change:

"18. Click the down arrow in the middle field and select =.

22. Click the down arrow in the middle field and select =.

26. Click the down arrow in the middle field and select =."



To:

"18. Click the down arrow in the middle field and select >=.

22. Click the down arrow in the middle field and select >=.

26. Click the down arrow in the middle field and select >=."

Note from the Author or Editor:
Pages 192-193, numbers 13, 17, and 21 need the symbol corrected. This applies to both the 2007 print version and the newest available files.

Focusing workbook referenced in place of Editing workbook
On page 223, the block below the image reads:



"CLOSE the Focusing workbook."



It should read:



"CLOSE the Editing workbook."

Appearanceacbluprt.jpg missing from companion content
The Appearanceacbluprt.jpg file is missing from the Companion Content. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

Microsoft scanned this file for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the file was posted. The file is stored on security-enhanced servers that help to prevent any unauthorized changes to the file.

Incorrect sample file name
On page xv, the third item in the Chapter 13 section reads:

"MacrosPerformance Dashboard.xlsx"

It should read:

"MacrosPerformance Dashboard.xlsm"

Incorrect path to sample files
On page 16, the first sentence of step 5 reads:

"Use the navigation controls to display the My DocumentsMicrosoft PressExcel SBSSetting UpCreating folder."

It should read:

"Use the navigation controls to display the My DocumentsMicrosoft PressExcel SBSCreating folder."

Incorrect instructions for removing format
On page 23, the instructions for clearing row formatting in Step 4 is incorrect.

Change:
"4. Click the Insert Options button and click Clear Formatting."

To:
"4. On the Home tab, in the Editing group, click the arrow next to the Clear button. Click Clear Formats."

Reference to Sales tab which does not exist
On page 43, step 3 reads:

"On the tab bar, click the Sales sheet tab.
The Sales worksheet appears."

It should read:

"Create a new worksheet titled "Sales" and select it."

"LastWeekMiles' should be "MilesLastWeek"
On page 63, Step 5 contains a reference to an incorrect sheet.Change:
"5. Edit the cell range in the Refers to field to =LastWeekMiles!$C$4:$H$4, click OK, and then click the check button next to the Refers to field."To:
"5. Edit the cell range in the Refers to field to =MilesLastWeek!$C$4:$H$4, click OK, and then click the check button next to the Refers to field."

Upper-right field referenced in place of lower-right field
On page 124, step 18 reads:

"Click the upper-right field down arrow and then click 3/14/2007."

It should read:

"Click the lower-right field down arrow and then click 3/14/2007."

Database should be Sorting
On page 154, in the USE box, the path to the sample file is incorrect.

Change:
"USE the ShipmentLog workbook in the practice file folder for this topic. This practice file is located in the My DocumentsMicrosoft PressExcel SBSDatabase folder."

To:
"USE the ShipmentLog workbook in the practice file folder for this topic. This practice file is located in the My DocumentsMicrosoft PressExcel SBSSorting folder."

Instructions incorrect for selecting cell range
On page 198, Step 3 contains incorrect instructions for obtaining the desired cell numbers in the "Input Range" field.

Change:
"3. Click in the Input Range field and position the mouse pointer near the top of the Sorting Minutes column header. When the pointer changes to a downwardpointing black arrow, click the header.
$C$3:$C$17 appears in the Input Range field."

To:
"3. Click in the Input Range field and select cells C3:C17.
$C$3:$C$17 appears in the Input Range field."

Signature needs to be removed from Performance Dashboard practice file
A Note box needs to be added before Step 1 which includes instructions for removing a signature form the sample file.

Add the following:
"After opening the workbook click on the Office Button. Navigate to Prepare then click on View Signatures. The Signatures window appears on the right. Right-click the signature name "Curt Frye_Exc..." and select Remove Signature. In the Remove Signature message box click Yes. If the Signature Removed message box appears click Ok."
