last paragraph

There is a reference in the last paragraph for a registration site:
http://tinyurl.com/yo82k3 that produces the an alert from Zone Alarm indicating the site is dangerous and has been known to be a source of spyware. Needless to say i did authorize my computer to continue there.

Note from the Author or Editor:
The problem is not with the O'Reilly site, but with the tinyurl service which shortens long web addresses. I guess Zone Alarm has flagged tinyurl as a hazard because it has been used to provide links to other sites with spyware. However, you can avoid tinyurl entirely by visiting:

steps 12, 14, 15

On page 50, Figure 1-20 has a callout for the Workspace switcher. At the top of page 50, Step 5 refers to the "Workspace switcher". But on page 52, steps 12, 14, and 15, each step refers to "Layout switcher", a different name for what apparently is the Workspace switcher. Also, by putting both these terms in quotes, most users would expect the text to appear exactly as quoted on the screen, but as far as I can tell the only place the text appears is the callout in Figure 1-20. So, I would suggest consistently using the term Workspace switcher as well as removing the quotes.

in step 13 we should be seeing "gold shields" to indicate that there are line breaks in the pasted text. There is a note in the last paragraph telling us to go back to page 49 if we don't see them but no mention of the fact that View > Visual Aids > Invisible Elements must be turned on.

I started with the book and a fresh, default install of DWCS4 and the view option (on a Mac) sees to be OFF. It should be mentioned either here, or on page 49.

This is a comment, not an error. I'm a Photoshop ACI and author (betatested Photoshop since version 7).I'm going through your excellent book to attempt to pass the DW ACE exam.

The Brightness/Contrast command in Photoshop has, until recently, been avoided because it damages images so badly by failing to lock down the highlight and shadow ends of the image's tonal range. Adobe fixed this in CS3, and I no longer tell folks to avoid B/C at all costs (I used to make them take a pledge).

So, what code did Adobe use for the B/c in Dreamweaver CS4? Unfortunately the old, horrible code. I recommend that you encourage your readers to use their B/C corrections very sparingly, if at all. Much better to adjust tones in Photoshop or Fireworks.

1st paragraph, starting under the grey box

Explained here is how to install the comparison tool on a mac.
It is said that you should use the browse button to point Dreamweaver to the usr/bin folder.

This folder is normally invisible from the finder.
By using the "browse" button it should become visible.

It may be good to notice that the usr folder will remain invisible *unless* you are logged in as an administrator.
However, preferences set as an administrator will be gone when you log in under a (different) useraccount.

A solution is to log in under your own account, make hidden files visible in the Finder with a tool like Tinkertool. Point Dreamweaver to usr/bin/twdiff and then set the hidden files back to invisible.

Now you can use the comparison tool in Dreamweaver.

The instructions are confusing..
Select the Headline and paragraph immediately following it a the top of the page and choose Edit > Select All;...

If we follow this instruction the intended result is NOT acheived - we paste the entire contents of the file tips1_text.html into the Title editable region. I think that the problem can be fixed by removing the "choose Edit > Select All;" portion of this sentence.

"Select the headline and paragraph immediately following it at the top of the page and choose Edit > Copy.

4th paragraph - Item #14.

Item 14 discusses the need to "flush" the new permissions to get them recognized. However, the figure referenced in the text (Figure 22-8) shows a MAMPP home page (instead of the XAMPP page I am using). On my XAMPP home page, there is no "Reload Priveldges" link that I can see. Perhaps the current version (3.1.1) does not require flushing the new permissions?

Note from the Author or Editor:
The latest version of PHP MyAdmin does not have a "Reload Privileges" link...well, it does, but it's hidden. You can find it by clicking the "Privileges" tab then scrolling to the bottom of the page and clicking the "reload the privileges" link. Alternatively, you can just click the SQL tab at the top of the page and type "FLUSH PRIVILEGES;" in the "Run SQL Query" box, then click the "Go" button in the bottom right of the page.
