The filesystem originally implemented by DOS. It supports partitions up to
2 GB (Windows 95/98/Me) or up to 4 GB (Windows NT 4.0/2000). FAT is officially
limited to 8-character filenames with 3-character extensions, but the VFAT
system in 32-bit Windows supports long filenames by using multiple FAT
entries.
