Following are the changes made in the 2/00 reprint.


Here's a key to the markup:

        [page-number]: serious technical mistake
        {page-number}: minor technical mistake
        <page-number>: important language/formatting problem
        (page-number): language change or minor formatting problem
        ?page-number?: reader question or request for clarification


{13} In Chapter 2, paragraph 2, first sentence used to read:

        "but the Web has mostly replaced it"

Now reads:

        "but it is virtually obsolete"


{13} Deleted the final margin note, "FTP FAQ". It was obsolete.


{19} In quiz question #3 it used to read:

        "Connect to the Gopher site of O'Reilly & Associates"

Now reads, simply:

        "Connect to:"

The URL has been changed to read:

        "gopher://gopher.utah.edu"


{33} In Chapter 3, "Greek history" is now in courier font,
where it says "enter the query Greek history."


{77} In Chapter 6, the second sentence used to read:

        "If you connect your Web browser to the URL"

Now reads:

        "If you consider the URL"


{82} In the third bulleted item, deleted:

        "and Gateway 2000 uses gw2k.com,"


{89} At the end of the first full paragraph, deleted:

        "At press time, one is located at http://..."


{89} In "do a Web search for traceroute", "traceroute" is now in
Courier font.


{96} The URL used to read:
        
        "http://www.pc.411.com"

Now reads:

        "http://www.reversephonedirectory.com"


{134} In Chapter 10, in the margin note, deleted the third URL that
read:

        "http://www.technet.nm.org/..."


(165) The final sentence now used to read:
        
        "If any of these URLs go out of date..."

Now reads:

        "Over time, these URLs will change or become obsolete. If a
        page has vanished, visit your favorite search engine (or two)
        and search for the page title or the topic. Maybe you'll find
        an even better resource."


{168} Changed the Webster's Dictionary URL to read:
        
        "http://www.m-w.com"


{171} Deleted the Mammoth Music Meta-List entry.
