iPhone The Missing Manual by David Pogue is the book every iPhone or potential iPhone user should acquire. It is new enough to cover the 2.0 software, but goes even further by offering email updates to the book as the iPhone evolves. Covering such subjects as getting started, trouble shooting, tips and tricks, differences between the original iPhone and 3G, available apps, managing battery usage, and a host of other extremely useful topics, this book is comprehensive to the max. Mr. Pogue presents his material in a witty and understandable format that makes one want to grab an iPhone and play.

I just purchased this book today and am enjoying reading it.
There are several ways you can get this onto your iPhone to read it at your leisure. If you choose to buy the electronic version you are able to download 3 different formats. One format is PDF which you can read on the iPhone several different ways. One is to email it to yourself as an attachment and read it within the Mail app. A second way to use a file storarge app like DataCase or (free) AirSharing. You can then transfer the PDF to a file folder on your iPhone and open it up for reading within the DataCase or AirSharing apps. The disadvantage with PDFs is that the hyperlinks within the PDF don't work and the only way to move to a new section is to scroll down starting from the beginning. This quickly gets tedious in a 200+ page book.
A better way is to use the EPUB file format. This has the advantage that you can pull up a chapter outline and jump to those sections directly. You can use the (free) Stanza app to read EPUB files on the iPhone. On a Mac you can transfer the file from your computer to the iPhone by placing in within your 'Sites' folder and activating Personal Web Sharing in the System Preferences. When you select 'Personal Web Sharing' the URL to your Sites folder will be listed. You can then transfer the file by opening the Stanza app on the iPhone and selecing 'Download book at URL' option under the tools icon on the Library page.
Hope this helps!

"Do you have an iPhone 3G? If you do, then this book is for you. Author David Pogue, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that is designed to serve as the iPhone manual."
-- John R. Vacca, Amazon.com
"For those in need of a written guide to the iPhone, you just buy the book and enjoy it, without wasting any time with comparisons, reviews, or undue deliberation. You can trust the author and publisher. For years,Pogue Press', the Missing Manual series, has been a benchmark of
quality for the genre. In an era where manufacturers provide skimpy support materials, the Missing Manual series acts as a great substitute."
-- John Suda, Amazon.com
"After reading and applying 376 pages of
iPhone: The Missing Manual: Covers the iPhone 3G, you will feel that you mastered iPhone 3G in every aspect. The book also works as a troubleshooting guide. My recommendation is to progress to book slowly applying the skills in each chapter. Essential reading for iPhone geeks."
