    Jim Elferdink is co-author of "AppleWorks 6: The Missing Manual" and owns Macs for the Masses, a Macintosh consulting company. In former lifetimes a commercial photographer, farm owner, carpenter, and cabinetmaker; currently he enjoys gourmet cooking, digital photography, and racing sports cars. College introduced him to the Mac Plus and to comely professor Joy Hardin. He bought one and married the other. They share a home in the redwoods of far Northern California.

Colophon In the spirit of full disclosure, the author regrets to report that he did not write the text of this book in Pages-not because it isn't up to the task, nor that he wouldn't have loved to, but because publishing industry staffers (and FrameMaker) accept nothing but Microsoft Word. Unable to fulfill a lifelong dream of having a personal secretary he could summon with an authoritative punch of the intercom and a commanding, "Come in here Miss Butler, please-and bring your pad," the author did the next best thing and wrote most of the book using voice-dictation software. Since there's nothing comparable available for the Mac, he used Dragon NaturallySpeaking on a Windows laptop, then rushed the Word files over the network to a Power Mac G4, where they were spell-checked, illustrated, and transmitted to the book's editors. Ambrosia Software's Snapz Pro X was used to capture illustrations; Adobe Photoshop was called in as required for touching them up. Sarah Sherman was the production editor and proofreader for iWork '05: The Missing Manual. Phil Dangler and Claire Cloutier provided quality control. Julie Hawks wrote the index. Marcia Friedman designed the cover of this book, based on a series design by David Freedman, and produced the cover layout with Adobe InDesign CS using Adobe's Minion and Gill Sans fonts. David Futato designed the interior layout, based on a series design by Phil Simpson. This book was converted by Keith Fahlgren to FrameMaker 5.5.6 with a format conversion tool created by Erik Ray, Jason McIntosh, Neil Walls, and Mike Sierra that uses Perl and XML technologies. The text font is Adobe Minion; the heading font is Adobe Formata Condensed; and the code font is LucasFont's TheSans Mono Condensed. The illustrations that appear in the book were produced by Robert Romano, Jessamyn Read, and Lesley Borash using Macromedia FreeHand MX and Adobe Photoshop CS.The production editors for Book Title, eMatter Edition were Ellie Cutler and Jeff Liggett.
