UNCONFIRMED errors and comments from readers: {1} 3rd "box"; I am reading this book via Safari Books Online and therefore do not (as far as I can see) have access to page numbers. In the Introduction... In the "What's New in Tiger" section... In the "UP TO SPEED - Mac OS X: The Buzzword-Compliant Operating System" box... In the "Preemptive multitasking" section... The author states: "Unfortunately, the Mac OS 7/8/9 (and Windows 95/98/Me) version of multitasking works by the rule of the playground ..." The Windows part of that sentence is inaccurate. All Windows versions PRIOR to 95 were cooperative - but 95 fixed that and had true preemptive multitasking. [It did, however, continue to suffer from a global resource pool.] (8) box, column 2, 2nd line; "(see p.10)" should be "(see p.11)" for the Intel box (11) Future Shock - Intel Inside Box, 7th paragraph, 2nd sentance.; "..., you can install commercial programs like called Paralles, VMWare, or Crossover..." I believe the word 'called' should be removed from the sentence. (361) 7th paragraph; Preview section header is spelled "Peview" (367) Entire page is missing--book has page 361 repeated instead; The section on Stickies is missing the entire page 367. Pages 366 and 368 are fine. What appears instead is a repeat of page 361. [389-390] bottom half 389 & top half of 390; Backing up /creating image (.dmg file) of entire hard drive. Pages 389-390 imply/state that using Apple's Disk Utility it's possible to image the start-up disk. I tried many times yesterday in different ways and always got the error message "Resource Busy". AppleCare was not very helpful, saying I couldn't do it. I tried again, this time booting from Install Disk #1 (10.4.x) & running Disk Utility. I was able to get it to work. I suggest you modify pp. 389-390 for when users want to image/backup their root HD. I'm using 10.4.7 on a 1.67GHz G4 PB. {390} Last paragraph.; Text reads (2nd line / at '('): (or, alternatively, Control-click the .dmg icon and choose Burn from the shortcut menu). The choice 'Burn' does not appear at all.
