3rd "box"

I am reading this book via Safari Books Online <www.safaribooksonline.com> and therefore do not (as far as I can see) have access to page numbers.

In the Introduction...

In the "What's New in Tiger" section...

In the "UP TO SPEED - Mac OS X: The Buzzword-Compliant Operating System" box...

In the "Preemptive multitasking" section...

The author states:

"Unfortunately, the Mac OS 7/8/9 (and Windows 95/98/Me) version of multitasking works by the rule of the playground ..."

The Windows part of that sentence is inaccurate. All Windows versions PRIOR to 95 were cooperative - but 95 fixed that and had true preemptive multitasking. [It did, however, continue to suffer from a global resource pool.]

Last entry on page in "Managing Programs" section of Appendix F

In the appendix of key commands (the last appendix in the book) the description for the key command "Shift-Command-3" reads "Captures the screen image as a PDF file on your desktop". It should say that it saves this as a PNG file, like the rest of the book says. Since this appendix is something that people will cut out and look at for quick reference, this is marked as a serious technical error.

First entry on page

In the appendix of key commands (the last appendix in the book) the description for the key command "Shift-Command-4" reads "Produces a crosshair; drag to capture a selected portion of the screen as a PDF graphics file". It should say that it saves this as a PNG file, like the rest of the book says. Since this appendix is something that people will cut out and look at for quick reference, this is marked as a serious technical error.

"and Entourage, 92" should be removed, because there is no mention of Entourage there.
