The tar example on the command line

tar xzf dd_rescue-1.0.3.tar.gz dd_rescue

extracts the full dd_rescue directory, not just the binary. The command should be:

tar xzf dd_rescue-1.0.3.tar.gz dd_rescue/dd_rescue

in which case the rest of the steps are correct.


[190]  third command line code example; middle of page;
The code example in the middle of page 190 (Hack 60):

ssh username@192.168.0.2 .cat > /home/username/etc.tar.gz. | sudo tar xvfz -
should read:
ssh username@192.168.0.2 .cat /home/username/etc.tar.gz. | sudo tar xvfz -

That is, when doing the restore there should be no > sign. Using > overwrites 
that backup that was created earlier with an empty file. When using no >,
the tarball is catted to tar.
