This one is bigger than the last one (Mac OS X - In a Nutshell) and, like it's predecessor, is very informative. They don't get to involved in the normal user apps (iPhoto, iTunes, etc.), that's what the "Missing Manual" is for. They stick to topics that help someone to maintain a Mac and administer it on a network. Making it a definite must have for the Mac/Unix administrator.

The "Unix Command Reference" chapter is worth the price of the book all by itself. Very "beefy" and educational. Having the other chapters included though, makes it a tome worthy of having on your shelf next to your "Programming Perl" and "Linux System Administration Handbook" books.

A job well done!

Media reviews "As tired of an adjective as it may be, there's only one word to describe [Mac OS X] Panther in a Nutshell: indispensable."
--Mac Directory, Oct.-Dec. 2004

Reviews From Previous Editions

"O'Reilly's 'OS X in a Nutshell' is an indispensable manual for anyone who needs to know the OS inside and out.... Even though it touches on nearly all aspects of Mac OS X, it hones in on many of the areas where you'll probably be looking for the most help.... It is full of features and tricks that are far from obvious and a number of which we haven't found anwhere else. In either case, this is one book you'll want to keep within arm's reach."
