Book description

The C# Cookbook offers a definitive collection of solutions and examples for this new programming language. Recipes range from simple tasks to the more complex, and are organized with respect to the types of problems you'll need to solve as you progress in your experience as a C# programmer. Nearly every recipe contains a complete, documented code sample showing you how to solve the specific problem, as well as a discussion of how the underlying technology works and a discussion of alternatives, limitations, and other considerations where appropriate.
Full Description

Easy to learn and use, the C# language is targeted at developers for Microsoft's .NET platform who've worked with a C-like language before, such as C, C++, or Java. There's no shortage of excellent tutorials and documentation to help new developers get a handle on the language, such as O'Reilly's Learning C# or Programming C#. But when you need practical answers to the day-to-day questions you run up against, a tutorial isn't going to do the trick. The C# Cookbook gets straight to the heart of the problem with code recipes collected especially for developers working on the .NET platform. The recipes in the C# Cookbook are organized into seventeen chapters, each of which focuses on a particular topic in creating C# solutions. Among the topics covered, you'll find:
  • Numeric data types in C#
  • Strings and characters
  • Classes and structures
  • Exception handling
  • Delegates and events
  • Regular expressions
  • Data structures and algorithms
  • Networking
  • Security
  • Unsafe Code
You don't need to be an experienced C# or .NET developer to use this book. The C# Cookbook is designed for users of all levels with recipes targeted at the real-world developer who needs to solve problems now, not learn lots of theory first. With this guide, all developers will be able to learn and improve their mastery of both the language and the .NET Framework Class Libraries.

If you are starting to study the programming language C # or at least already you have a good notion on other programming languages, really you have here a workmanship of utmost importance.

With this book, you he will know with the time as to take off its doubts, and will also see that the examples of codes are autoexplicativos what it provides to a good learning for its day the day.

This book is for vc to have underneath of its arm, of the side of the bed, in the small table of the bathroom, or either, it is a great reference and it must be always with you that it intends to go deep the programming with #.

I liked it very, and still I go to also write my book of c #, using this is clearly as reference.

Good book for a course of programming, reference for professors, mestrandos, doctors, apprenticees, assistant, and projects clerical, imagine cup more and all...

The fantastic one of everything is really the organization, you the measure can that will be adding knowledge to go jumping for front or stops backwards in this book... It was valid!

It knows what it said my pupil auxiliary one day: "It always pulls professor I I wanted to find a book that covered the details of the c # and that me of this great feedback, and in the hours that I am alone here, he seems me that the author speaks with me, I really I am made an impression with this workmanship, I will need to improve my English..."

Then I say you, a book to be in its table and to the side of its computer!

You can download the source code here: http://examples.oreilly.com/csharpckbk/ You do not need to be regeisted either. But it is quite useless without all of the discussion to go with it.

The code is downloadable. Downloaded it myself and am using it. I think you have to register the book first though, otherwise what would be the point in making a book all about the code, then having it downloadable without buying the book.

For someone who is new to C#, but knows other programming languages and programming in general, this book is exactly what you need. It covers all those 'now how do I do that?' type questions clearly and in depth. I am not taking this to my work, as it will dissapear. The organisation is excellent, each solution is carefully explained with just enough information to not overwhelm. Up to the usual high Oreilly standard.

It's a shame the source is not downloadable anywhere...... That is a BIG drawback!!!

Media reviews

"Think of it as an array of off-the-shelf techniques that you can use when confronted by specific common problems...it's as close to having a C# guru at your beck and call when things go wrong as you'll get for £25 [$49.95 US]."
