I have safari open in full screen as requested but don't have a trackpad only a magic mouse. You tell me to click on launchpad on the Dock, however as I am in full screen mode my dock is not visible. I am aware that I could leave full screen mode, but this defeats the object of the exercise. Not very impressed that such as basic over sight has happened, before I even get to chapter 1. Have tried moving mouse to bottom of page to see if dock appears it doesn't. Hope the book improves, my apple experience so far has not been a good one, far more difficult to set up than my old dell which just worked straight out of the box, have had to phone apple support twice with the new iMac Note from the Author or Editor: |

Original text says: "By the way, you can close, minimize, or zoom a background window without the help of the "command" key. Just click one of those three corresponding title-bar buttons normally. Mac OS X does its thing without taking you out of your current window or program." Note from the Author or Editor: |

Other Digital Version | 25 Pressing the command key section |
When it says "By the way, you can close, minimize, or zoom a background window without the help of the command key", it works for close and minimize, but it doesn't work with the zoom because it takes us out of the current window, turning the window that was zoomed (green button) active. iDVD certainly does NOT 'come free on every new Mac' and has not since Lion first arrived. I know iDVD is not really part of the OS but I would have thought this would count as a significant difference from previous OS X. It is an indicator of Mac philosophy of basing everything in the Cloud instead of on disc, and is not to everyone's taste, see e.g. Note from the Author or Editor: |

In the description of iWork documents syncing with ios5 versions, several articles have said that the iWork documents generated by the Mac versions are different from those generated by ios5 devices, like iPad2. For example, apparently the ios5 version of Pages doesn't support footnotes or endnotes, and if the Mac version is synced via iCloud with an ios5 device, these would be lost. Ted Landau said (on Macworld in an Oct. 21 article): "Even so, there remains a critical reason why automatic syncing between Macs, iCloud, and iOS devices would be difficult, if not impossible, to pull off right now: The Mac and iOS versions of the same iWork document are different. When you load a Mac version of an iWork document into an iOS iWork app, the document is converted to the iOS format. Mainly, this means that the iOS app strips out features of the document that iOS does not support." Note from the Author or Editor: |

I recommend deletion of the last sentence beginning "To change the factory setting...". It is a longstanding quirk of Mail that this setting doesn't actually do anything by itself, much to the consternation of users who naturally assume it will generate a rich text message. Nothing happens unless you separately select a font/size/color for each outgoing email individually. Note from the Author or Editor: |
